EU accession bid aligns with Armenian people's European aspirations, diplomat says
The ballot initiative calling for the start of a process of Armenia's accession to the European Union aligns with the deepening cooperation between Armenia and the EU, as well as the European aspirations of the Armenian people, Deputy Foreign Minister Paruyr Hovhannisyan announced at an extraordinary session of the National Assembly Standing Committee on European Integration on Friday.
He emphasized that the political will to strengthen ties with the EU was clearly demonstrated in the prime minister’s speech at the European Parliament, which reflects Armenia's commitment to enhancing its relations with the EU and its member states as outlined in the Armenian government's 2021-2026 program.
"The European Union, in turn, has expressed political support for the Armenian government," the diplomat said, highlighting efforts to expand sectoral cooperation.
"Political dialogue has significantly intensified, with negotiations on a new agenda of Armenia-EU partnership underway," Hovhannisyan added.
