MP: Azerbaijan seeks to settle so-called 'refugees' in strategically important parts of Armenia
Opposition Pativ Unem faction MP Tigran Abrahamyan has warned that Azerbaijan aims to settle so-called "refugees" in strategically important parts of Armenia through the border delimitation and demarcation process.
"By imposing its “border delimitation” plans on Armenia, Azerbaijan seeks to simultaneously resolve the so-called issue of “Azerbaijani refugees”, settling them in key parts of Armenia that hold strategic importance for Baku," Abrahamyan wrote on Facebook on Saturday.
He pointed out that Azerbaijani officials repeatedly talk about these areas – Gegharkunik and Syunik Provinces.
“Gegharkunik Province is of great strategic significance to Azerbaijan due to Lake Sevan, while Syunik is vital as it connects Nakhichevan with Turkey," he explained.
Abrahamyan also noted that the border delimitation issue is complex, making its details largely unclear to the public. "The Pashinyan government is exploiting the lack of public understanding to conceal the threats facing the country or to distort their true nature," he added.
