Ex-defense minister denies purchase of faulty weapons for Armenian army
MPs from the opposition Hayastan faction led by Seyran Ohanyan, a former Armenian defense minister, on Tuesday visited the Yerablur Military Pantheon in Yerevan to mark the 33rd anniversary of the Armenian army.
“Our army has made a glorious journey. It was formed at the most decisive and challenging times for the Armenian people amid a war imposed upon us and the devastating earthquake, but thanks to the trinity of Armenia, Artsakh and the Diaspora, we were able to build our army and achieve victories,” Ohanyan told reporters.
He emphasized that the Armenian army had honorably carried out the tasks set before it for many years.
“Today, our army continues to fulfill its duties with honor along various border sections,” the MP stated.
Ohanyan expressed confidence that if the nation rises, the army will restore its former glory.
“We have never procured obsolete or unusable weapons, nor have we ever had equipment that was ineffective on the battlefield,” he said, rejecting Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan’s accusations.
“On the contrary, for years, within the framework of military-technical cooperation, we not only acquired military equipment and armaments at a low price within the CSTO, but also received advanced weaponry in large quantities from our strategic partner,” Ohanyan remarked.
"Let Nikol Pashinyan answer the question: where are the weapons and military equipment that once filled the Armenian army’s arsenal? Why has he failed to lead effectively, despite his claimed confidence in his skills as commander-in-chief?" he asked.
