Former Armenian mayor handed jail term
Armenia's Anti-Corruption Court on Wednesday sentenced Mamikon Aslanyan, former mayor of Vanadzor, to 4 years and 4 months in jail.
Considering the time he had already spent on remand in custody, the court reduced his sentence to 1 year and 9 months. Additionally, he was fined 500,000 drams and banned from holding public office for 3 years.
Aslanyan was convicted of abuse of office and forgery vehemently denied by him as politically motivated.
He had been released on bail in July 2024 after spending 2 years and 7 months behind bars.
