Georgian FM addresses 'challenges posed by Russia' in Yerevan
Georgian Foreign Minister Maka Bochorishvili hailed strategic partnership between Armenia and Georgia as she spoke at a joint press conference with her Armenian counterpart Ararat Mirzoyan in Yerevan on Thursday.
“Armenian-Georgian relations have been upgraded to strategic partnership,” she announced.
Bochorishvili further highlighted that the strategic ties between the two countries are rooted in centuries-old friendship and close cooperation.
“The strong bonds between the two nations provide broad opportunities to enhance cooperation in all areas,” the minister said.
"Armenia is among our top 10 economic partners, which holds great importance for us. There are significant opportunities to expand our economic relations. We’re witnessing a growing trend in tourism, with many Armenians visiting Georgia," she added.
The Georgian minister noted that she and Mirzoyan had discussed transport, tourism and economic cooperation between the two countries, as well as strategies to strengthen these areas.
The upcoming intergovernmental session in Yerevan, chaired by the prime ministers of both nations, will also focus on these topics.
"We discussed peace and stability in the region. Georgia sincerely hopes for lasting peace in the region and is committed to doing everything necessary to help achieve that goal," Bochorishvili said.
She also warned of the "challenges posed by Russia”.
"Russia has occupied some parts of Georgia, causing humanitarian, economic and social problems," Bochorishvili stated.
She emphasized that both Georgia and Armenia respect each other's territorial integrity and sovereignty, a principle that will remain fundamental in their bilateral and multilateral relations.
