Protesting ZCMC employees say they rely on loans to make ends meet
More than 700 employees of the Zangezur Copper Molybdenum Combine (ZCMC) have gone on strike since Friday morning, seeking higher wages.
"We're enduring hardships and getting low salaries," said Zohrab, a ZCMC worker from Kajaran.
"The dust is suffocating, while our insurance is practically useless. My daughter has a disability, but I've never received any assistance from it. Salaries should increase by at least 150,000 drams," added another employee, Henzel Soghomonyan.
The protesters state that nearly all employees rely on loans to make ends meet. "99.9% of us live on loans, but we shouldn't have to. Working at such a company, our salaries should have been enough for a decent living."
The striking employees have two main demands: a 50% salary increase (130,000-150,000 drams) and an open dialogue between workers and management.
