Boycott of bus fare increase continues in Yerevan
Many commuters continue boycotting a significant increase in public transport fares in Yerevan, citing poor service. Bus fares rose from 100 to 150 drams in Yerevan starting from February 1.
One citizen, who continues to defy the fare hike, said, "We’re traveling in deplorable conditions, waiting 20-25 minutes for a bus and now paying 150 drams. I don’t understand how they justify this increase. The issue of public transport remains unresolved."
She emphasized that the voices of ordinary citizens remain unheard at the city hall, accusing the ruling faction of failure to deliver on its election promises to address public concerns.
"We pay taxes while they use official cars and their own vehicles. If they were forced to use public transport themselves, only then would this issue be resolved," another commuter remarked.
"I’m forced to pay the 150 drams, what other option do I have against this government? Sometimes I join the boycott, but other times I feel ashamed because of my age," a third complained.
Yerevan residents also expressed dissatisfaction with the irregular operations of public transport, stressing that overcrowding often makes it impossible to get on a bus.
"Some days it's calm, other days it's overcrowded. Sometimes buses arrive early, but other times we’re left freezing while waiting at the bus stops," one commuter stated.
Meanwhile, a bus driver expressed his frustration with passengers: "I’m very upset. Passengers are disrespectful. They ignore the drivers and don’t even thank us when they don’t pay," he said.
