Azerbaijan trying to force new concessions on Armenia, MP warns
Azerbaijan has turned the sham trial of 23 Armenian prisoners illegally held in Baku into a propaganda tool and a means of justifying war against Armenia, claims Tigran Abrahamyan, an MP from the opposition Pativ Unem faction.
Speaking in the parliament on Tuesday, Abrahamyan criticized the Armenian authorities for downplaying Azerbaijan’s aggressive actions while Baku continued to escalate threats against Armenia.
“The situation is so dire that even the ruling party's leader had to admit that despite their claims of commitment to peace, Azerbaijan appears in no rush to resolve issues through peaceful negotiations," Abrahamyan stated.
"When we previously warned that this was not just about Artsakh or Armenian captives, but rather a form of warfare waged against Armenia, the authorities launched smear campaigns and fueled internal conflicts to suppress any discussion related to the defense of Artsakh and its people."
The MP stressed that the government’s rhetoric and political stance are undermining the interests of the Armenian state.
"In any case, we need to understand what exactly is being orchestrated in Azerbaijan and what threats it poses to Armenia. By labeling Armenia as an occupier, aggressor and fascist, while simultaneously inciting new provocations against Armenia through its sham trials in Baku, Azerbaijan is pursuing two key objectives. First, it seeks to pressure Armenia into making further concessions through false claims and fabricated justifications, threatening to use force if its demands are not met. Second, Azerbaijan is preparing for new war if regional and geopolitical conditions allow, with minimal resistance from key players.
“Armenia’s leadership, caught in a cycle of submission and defeatism, has either lost control or accepted its fate as a victim, awaiting the next blow,” Abrahamyan stated.
