Expert reacts to Armenian blogger's reported arrest in Belarus on Azerbaijan's warrant
Political analyst Ara Poghosyan has reacted to reports of an Armenian blogger’s arrest in Belarus at Azerbaijan’s request.
"According to some reports, an Armenian blogger known as Bella has been arrested in Belarus on an Azerbaijani warrant," he wrote on Facebook on Saturday.
"This incident raises several concerns, the most obvious being that Belarus is no longer a safe place for Armenians. Also, it sets a dangerous precedent as Azerbaijan could target any Armenian. I warned about this just a few days ago. Azerbaijan is attempting to silence us all and impose its will through intimidation.
"This is not just a political dispute between the government and the opposition. If confirmed, the arrest of an Armenian citizen in Belarus at Azerbaijan’s behest poses a direct threat to Armenia’s national security," he stressed.
Poghosyan called for an immediate verification of the report, emphasizing that the blogger’s potential extradition to Azerbaijan should be regarded as captivity.
