Kocharyan: I remained silent, yet they kept talking about me, even about my shadow
Armenia’s second President Robert Kocharyan explained why he had not held press conferences for so long.
"The media often suggested that my political activity hindered certain figures on the political stage. I disagreed with those claims, but I decided to step back and give others the opportunity to establish themselves and prove their worth," Kocharyan told reporters on Monday.
However, according to Kocharyan, even in his absence, people continued to discuss him, especially those who wanted him to remain silent.
"And what happened? I remained silent, yet they kept talking about me. They even spoke about my shadow quite often, in fact. And mostly, those who wanted me to stay silent were the ones talking. That is the situation we have," he remarked, adding, "But today, many people are waiting to hear what I have to say."
Kocharyan also revealed a second reason for his public appearance: "At one point, I considered leaving the prime minister alone with his electorate."
