Armenian activist denies charges, demands accountability for prosecutors
Public and political activist Edgar Ghazaryan, former Armenian ambassador to Poland, has rejected the charges against him, demanding accountability for the prosecutors and investigators handling his case.
Ghazaryan is facing charges for his critical remarks about judges under Article 490 of Armenia’s Criminal Code. He has been banned from leaving the country and could be placed under administrative supervision.
"If anyone should face trial in the criminal case against me, it is undoubtedly the prosecutors and investigators involved," Ghazaryan wrote on Facebook on Saturday.
He cited Article 480 of the Criminal Code which refers to subjecting an obviously innocent person to criminal liability. The activist suggested that the charges against him were politically motivated and ordered by Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan.
