Trump says 'big threats' on his life by Iran

Former President Donald Trump  said Wednesday there were "big threats" on his life posed by Iran after the Republican presidential candidate's campaign team said US intelligence warned him of "real and specific" threats from Tehran, AFP reported.

"Big threats on my life by Iran. The entire U.S. Military is watching and waiting," Trump wrote on his Truth Social platform. "Moves were already made by Iran that didn't work out, but they will try again. ... I am surrounded by more men, guns, and weapons than I have ever seen before."

His campaign spokesman Steven Cheung said in a statement on Tuesday that Trump was warned by the Office of the Director of National Intelligence (ODNI) “regarding real and specific threats from Iran to assassinate him in an effort to destabilize and sow chaos in the United States”.

“Intelligence officials have identified that these continued and coordinated attacks have heightened in the past few months,” Cheung said.

Turkey blocks access to Instagram

Turkey has blocked access to social media platform Instagram, the infotech regulator said on Friday, without stating a reason or duration for the ban, which also left the platform's mobile app inaccessible, Reuters reported.

The move follows comments on Wednesday by Turkish communications official Fahrettin Altun, criticising the platform for what he called its decision to block condolence posts on the killing of Ismail Haniyeh, a key official of Palestinian militant group Hamas.

"This is censorship, pure and simple," Altun, the communications director of the Turkish presidency, said on X, adding that Instagram had not cited any policy violations for its action.

There was no immediate comment from Instagram parent Meta Platforms Inc (META.O), opens new tab on either the ban or Altun's comments.

Turkey's Information Technologies and Communication Authority (BTK) published the Aug. 2 decision on its website.

Trump vows to end Ukraine war in call with Zelensky

US Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump said Friday he had spoken by telephone with Ukraine leader Volodymyr Zelensky, and pledged to end the European country's war with Russia, France 24 reported.

"I appreciate President Zelensky for reaching out because I, as your next President of the United States, will bring peace to the world and end the war that has cost so many lives and devastated countless innocent families," Trump said in a post on his Truth Social platform.

"Both sides will be able to come together and negotiate a deal that ends the violence and paves a path forward to prosperity."

The United States has provided tens of billions of dollars in military assistance for Kyiv since Russia launched its full-scale invasion of Ukraine in February 2022 -- though a Trump victory in the November election would put Washington's continued support into question.

Zelensky confirmed the call, during which he congratulated Trump on formally becoming the Republican Party's presidential nominee, as well as wishing the 78-year-old well after an attempt on his life a week ago.

"We agreed with President Trump to discuss at a personal meeting what steps can make peace fair and truly lasting," Zelensky said in a post on X.

Kim Kardashian's woven braids spark Founding Father comparisons

Kim Kardashian’s latest hairstyle has seemingly taken inspiration from America’s Founding Fathers, according to fans.

The Skims founder, 43, took to Instagram on June 23 to debut a new look. In a carousel of photos, Kardashian’s platinum blonde hair was woven into basket braid pigtails. The reality TV star went makeup free in the photos, pairing her braided hairstyle with a sheer tank top and nude leggings, The Independent reported.

While the Keeping Up with the Kardashians alum has been known to wear some avante-garde and futuristic ensembles, some fans believed her newest look resembled a powdered wig from the 18th century.

“What in the constitution is going on here?” one Instagram user commented under the post.

“Ok George Washington,” another fan joked.

“It’s giving… Founding Father,” said someone else, while another person quipped: “She getting ready to write the Declaration of Independence.”

Kardashian’s woven braids were crafted by her longtime hairstylist Chris Appleton, who she tagged in her Instagram post. Appleton posted photos of the entrepreneur’s basket braids to his own Instagram, simply captioning his post with three silver chain link emojis.

This isn’t the first time the mother of four has shocked fans with a dramatic hair transformation. In 2015, Kardashian debuted her now-signature bleach blonde hair for the first time at Paris Fashion Week. The Kardashians star went back to her natural dark brown locks on-and-off for several years, before undergoing a 14-hour hair transformation to channel Marilyn Monroe at the 2022 Met Gala.
