News on adoption of anti-Armenian declarations in PACE – Azerbaijani media’s misinformation
Azerbaijan’s Trend news agency spread misinformation about “adoption of a written declaration in PACE which strictly condemns the killing of the 13-year-old Azerbaijani child by Armenians.” According to the agency, “the draft declaration was prepared by member of the Azerbaijani delegation Ganira Pashayeva, and the declaration was signed by MPs from various countries represented in PACE, and was issued as an official document.”
However, this information does not correspond to reality, and indeed, the provocative declaration by Ganira Pashayeva, which was not an official document, was only signed by Azerbaijani MPs and their Turkish colleagues, a total of around 20 people. Naturally, PACE could not adopt an official document which blames the Armenian side for the killing of an Azerbaijani child, who indeed died under unknown and dubious circumstances, with the investigation into the incident still unclosed in Azerbaijan.
Azerbaijani media tried to use the very trick yesterday when they spread misinformation about “adoption of a declaration in PACE which strictly condemns the municipal elections in Nagorno-Karabakh.” In this case, however, Trend referred to the declaration by Ganira Pashayeva as a document signed by certain MPs (again Azerbaijani and Turkish) and did not invent the status of “PACE official document.”
