Serzh Sargsyan: The composition and mandate of peacekeepers are not being discussed at this stage
In the presently negotiated document there is a clause regarding international peacekeeping mission, but in the current stage their composition and mandate are not a subject of negotiations, President of Armenia Serzh Sargsyan elaborated in an interview with ArmNews TV.
Going back to the observation that in the last days discussions about bringing in peacekeepers, and specifically Russian peacekeepers, to the area of the line of contact between Armenian and Azerbaijani armed forces have actively resumed, President Sargsyan highlighed: “This is the first time I hear about Russian peacekeepers only, but in general the Madrid principles assume placing peacekeepers along the whole line of contact, I mean, between the sides. But that is not a subject to these negotiations, because here we should discuss only in principle whether there should be peacekeepers or not. The Kazan document has got that clause. The composition of the peacekeeping forces, their mandate will be established in the Big agreement, which will follow the signing of this document.”
