Tevan Poghosyan: Azerbaijan is providing fighters for ISIS
43 countries are providing foreign fighters for ISIS and Azerbaijan is one of them, Armenian MP Tevan Poghosyan said in his remarks at NATO’s Rose-Roth seminar.
According to him, it is no secret that the situation in the Middle East is related to Armenia’s national interest. Armenia has a community there, which is a result of the Armenian Genocide perpetrated by the Ottoman Turks in 1915-1923.
Poghosyan stressed that there is a huge need to come to a political decision regarding how to fight against ISIS and its militant activities.
“Sometimes we need to use a map in understanding the country's road because it seems like we all know what is more attractive for the foreign fighters, where they are going, what is the attraction, but we are not able to come to the political decision to fight against this,” he said.
As an example, he noted that on the one hand, Turkey is acting as a transit road, also for oil transit, but on the other hand, a political decision should be taken on how to fight ISIS.
In this regard, he also spoke about Azerbaijan’s false propaganda related to the Khojaly events, particularly how Azerbaijan is trying to misrepresent the reality.
“Or the similar situation, my colleague from Azerbaijan is complaining about the situation which took place in Khojaly, but he's forgetting to mention that then-Azerbaijani president Mutalibov noted that those events had been organized by the Azerbaijanis, they killed the people, and created a situation when a political decision was taken to oust Mutalibov from Azerbaijan. Now he is also forgetting to mention that about 43 countries are providing foreign fighters for ISIS and Azerbaijan is one of them,” stressed Poghosyan.
Phogosyan highlighted that Azerbaijan generally and its representative in particular is trying to present the Azerbaijani saboteurs as tourists, which is an absolute lie.
“Yesterday he spoke about two tourists visiting Nagorno-Karabakh, but he forgot to mention that these two tourists have cut the throat of 18-year-old local Armenian Smbat Tsakanyan. In the same way, ISIS is teaching young guys how to cut the throat. Maybe they have passed the training there?” concluded Poghosyan.
