Armenia becomes South Caucasus “innovative leader” in The Global Innovation Index 2015
Armenia ranked 61 out of 141 countries reported in The Global Innovation Index (GII) 2015 . Neighboring Georgia is on the 73rd position in the Index and Azerbaijan is the 93rd.
On “Creative outputs” category, Armenia got the best results as compared to its South Caucasus neighbors – 55th place: Georgia is the 99th and Azerbaijan 93rd. Armenia also significantly went before its neighbors in “Business sophistication” (89th position). Georgia is on the 105th position in the given category and Azerbaijan ranks 136th. In the category “Knowledge & technology outputs,” Azerbaijan falls behind Armenia (46) almost twice: it is on the 108th position. Georgia ranks 67th in this category.
“The Global Innovation Index (GII) 2015 covers 141 economies around the world and uses 79 indicators across a range of themes. Thus GII 2015 presents us with a rich dataset to identify and analyse global innovation trends,” the authors of the Index note.
GII 2015 is topped by Switzerland, the UK and Sweden. The Netherlands fall a little behind ranking the 4th, and the U.S. closes the top 5 of world’s five most-innovative nations.
The Global Innovation Index 2015 (GII) is co-published by Cornell University, INSEAD, and the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO, an agency of the United Nations).
Armenia became a regional leader in The Global Innovation Index (GII) of the previous years, as well. It ranked 65th in 2014, and in 2013 it got the 59th place.
