A wildfire in mountains in southern Spain has forced evacuation of 2,000 people from the centre of the town of Benahavis and injured three firefighters, authorities said. The blaze started on Wednesday afternoon on the slopes of Pujerra mountain in the Sierra Bermeja, above the Costa del Sol, a magnet for British tourists on the Andalusia coast, Andalusia's Wildfire Department (INFOCA) said on Twitter.

Three people are missing in flooding in the central Chinese province of Hunan, while a landslide buried parts of a village in the southern Guangxi region, state media reported. Around 1.8 million people have been affected in the largely rural, mountainous province — 286,000 of whom have been evacuated to safety while more than 2,700 houses have been damaged or collapsed entirely, Xinhua said.

New Zealand has unveiled a plan to tax sheep and cattle burps in a bid to tackle one of the country's biggest sources of greenhouse gases. It would make it the first nation to charge farmers for the methane emissions from the animals they keep. New Zealand is home to just over five million people, along with around 10 million cattle and 26 million sheep. Almost half the country's total greenhouse gas emissions come from agriculture, mainly methane.

A Chinese military plane crashed in central China on Thursday China's state-run national broadcaster CCTV said. A People's Liberation Army Air Force J-7 aircraft was on a training mission in Hubei province when it crashed, damaging several houses, CCTV said. One resident was killed and two others were injured, according to the broadcaster. The pilot, who sustained minor injuries, successfully ejected out of the plane and parachuted to the ground before it crashed, state media agency Xinhua reported.

A fire caused by suspected arson spread through an office building Thursday in South Korea’s Daegu city, killing at least seven people and injuring dozens of others, local fire and police officials said. Dozens of firefighters and vehicles were deployed and quickly put out the blaze, which began in the late morning on the second floor of a seven-floor office building near the city’s district court. At least 41 people were hurt, mostly from smoke inhalation, and 26 of them were being treated at nearby hospitals.

Spanish authorities are trying to find a brown bear and her cub which were separated after a brutal attack by a male bear that was caught on camera by two onlookers. The assault took place on a rocky mountainside in the northern Castilla y Leon region. The male bear, which was much larger than the female, died of injuries sustained in the fall, officials said, while the injured mother eventually got up and tried to find her cub, although it was not immediately clear whether they were reunited.

One person is dead and at least 30 are injured after a vehicle drove into a crowd near a church in Berlin, Germany, authorities say. The vehicle struck people outside the Kaiser Wilhelm Memorial Church on Wednesday morning, a spokesperson for the Berlin Fire Brigade told CNN. The brigade was alerted to the incident at around 10:30 a.m. local time. It is unclear whether the incident was an accident or deliberate.
Germany is ready to ramp up its military mission in Lithuania in response to Russia's invasion of Ukraine, German Chancellor Olaf Scholz said during a visit to Vilnius on Tuesday. Colombian naval officials conducting underwater monitoring of the long-sunken San Jose galleon have discovered two other historical shipwrecks nearby, President Ivan Duque said on Monday. The San Jose galleon, thought by historians to be carrying treasure that would be worth billions of dollars, sank in 1708 near Colombia's Caribbean port of Cartagena. Its potential recovery has been the subject of decades of litigation.
