East Libyan forces said they lost two helicopters in a crash during a military operation south of Benina airbase on Sunday, after days of fighting with a formerly allied rebel group from Chad. The Libyan National Army (LNA) of eastern-based commander Khalifa Haftar has been engaged since last week in battles with the Front for Change and Concord in Chad (FACT) in the south of Libya near the Chadian border.

An extremely rare official first-edition printed copy of the U.S. Constitution will be put up for bid by Sotheby's in mid-November, the auction house said on Friday. Announcing the upcoming sale of the document on the 234th anniversary of its signing by delegates to the Constitutional Convention, Sotheby's estimated its value at $15 million to $20 million.

Israel's army says it has recaptured the final two of a six man Palestinian group who tunnelled out of a high-security jail almost two weeks ago. The pair - both members of militant group Islamic Jihad - were arrested after being surrounded by security forces in the West Bank city of Jenin, Israel's Defense Forces said. The other four were captured last week.

A volcano erupted on the Spanish Canary Island of La Palma on Sunday after a week of building seismic activity. A huge column of smoke rose up after the eruption at 3.15pm local time in the Cumbre Vieja national park in the south of the island, according to the Canary Islands government. Just before, authorities had evacuated about 40 people with mobility problems and farm animals from the villages around the volcano.

Several hundred demonstrators gathered in Tunis on Saturday to protest against Tunisian President Kais Saied's seizure of governing powers in July, which triggered a constitutional crisis and prompted accusations of a coup. The protesters gathered in the centre of the capital chanting "shut down the coup" and "we want a return to legitimacy", while a few dozen Saied supporters held a counter demonstration chanting "the people want to dissolve parliament".

Work to shore up the Notre-Dame de Paris has been finished, allowing restoration to start at the cathedral two years after a fire destroyed the attic and sent its spire crashing through the vaults below, officials said on Saturday. Soon after the April 2019 blaze, President Emmanuel Macron said the cathedral - which dates back to the 12th century - would be rebuilt and later promised to get it reopened to worshippers by 2024, when France hosts the Olympic Games.

A case of the cattle disease BSE has been confirmed on a farm in Somerset. The Animal and Plant Health Agency (APHA) said that the infected animal has died and has been removed. An investigation is under way to find the source of the infection and restrictions on the movement of cattle on the farm have been put in place.
