Now doctors have said the former admin assistant may need both legs amputated after suffering a life-threatening bout of sepsis. Jorja was bitten by a gnat in 2009 while cutting the grass at her home in Basildon, Essex. Despite being just a "pinhole" size, the bite never healed and two years later Jorja was diagnosed with pyoderma gangrenosum, a rare skin condition that causes excruciating ulcers.

Venezuelan Juan Vicente Perez Mora, declared the oldest person in the world by Guinness World Records last week, will hit 113 years old on Friday. Perez Mora, who enjoys good health and a cup of strong aguardiente liquor every day, has 41 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren, and 12 great-great-grandchildren, Guinness said in a press release. Apart from slightly elevated blood pressure and hearing problems due to his age, Perez Mora is in very good health and does not take medication.

Eleven newborn babies died in a hospital fire in the western Senegalese city of Tivaouane, the president of the country said late Wednesday. Just before midnight in Senegal, Macky Sall announced on Twitter that 11 infants had died in the blaze.

India has decided to restrict the sale of sugar on international markets, just days after it banned wheat exports. In a statement on Wednesday, the Indian government said it will limit sugar exports to 10 million tons for the marketing season that runs through September to keep prices in check. Sellers have also been asked to seek "specific permission" from authorities for any export of sugar between June 1 and October 31.

Rock band Aerosmith have cancelled part of their forthcoming Las Vegas residency after frontman Steven Tyler checked himself into rehab. The star, who had been sober for more than a decade, relapsed after taking pain medication for foot surgery. The 74-year-old "voluntarily entered a treatment program to concentrate on his health and recovery", his bandmates said in a statement. Aerosmith had been due to start their Deuces Are Wild shows on 17 June.

Five Turkish soldiers fighting Kurdish fighters from the Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) in northern Iraq have been killed, the Turkish defence ministry has said in a statement. Another two soldiers were wounded during clashes that occurred on Tuesday near Iraq’s border with Turkey, the statement added.

Seventy five people were missing after a crowded boat of migrants sank off Tunisia on Wednesday, the International Organization for Migration said and a security official said, as the numbers risking the dangerous crossing to Europe increase. The IOM said 24 people had been rescued from the boat, which departed from the beaches of Zawara in Libya and sank off the coast of Sfax. A Tunisian security official told Reuters that the coastguard had recovered a body as they continue to search for 75 others who were missing.

A 16-year-old Palestinian shot in the head by Israeli forces died early on Wednesday after clashes in the occupied West Bank city of Nablus, the Palestinian health ministry said. The ministry identified the teen as Gaith Yamin. It said Israeli forces shot him near Joseph's Tomb, a flashpoint site. The Israeli military said on Twitter that it responded with live fire to hundreds of Palestinians who hurled rocks and petrol bombs at soldiers during a visit by Jewish worshippers to Joseph's Tomb on Tuesday night.

The world's shortest teenager has been crowned in Kathmandu, Nepal as he arrived to collect his award from Guinness World Records. Dor Bahadur Khapangi, who measures just 73.43cm, was carried by a relative to the location in the Nepalese capital. The official certificate names Khapangi as the 'shortest teenager living (male)' on 23 March.

An anti-crime operation in a Rio de Janeiro slum left 21 people dead Tuesday, officials said, a year after the bloodiest-ever favela raid in the city's history. Military police said they came under gunfire as they approached the northern Rio slum called Vila Cruzeiro in the early morning hours with the mission of locating and arresting "criminal leaders." At least 16 people from Myanmar’s Rohingya minority have died after a storm capsized the boat they were traveling on to seek refuge in another country, officials and a recovery team member said Tuesday. There were 35 survivors of the accident that took place Saturday off Myanmar’s southwestern coast and four people were missing, the officials said. The boat left the western state of Rakhine last Thursday and encountered bad weather two days later off Ayeyarwaddy Region on Myanmar’s southwestern coast, causing it to capsize, the statement said.
