Two pilots have died after their fighter jet crashed during a training run in Iran’s Isfahan province. State media confirmed on Tuesday that an F-7 aircraft crashed in Anarak, approximately 200 kilometres east of the city of Isfahan, killing both pilots. Mohammad Reza Jannesari, a security official from the province, told the semi-official Tasnim news website that the aircraft, which belonged to the army, went down at about 8:10am local time. “This fighter jet faced technical issues during the training operation and crashed,” he said.

A train collided with a bus and derailed at a railroad crossing in southern Germany on Tuesday, police said. Several people were injured, some of them severely. The train struck the bus, which was carrying no passengers, at Blaustein, near the city of Ulm, German news agency dpa reported. The bus driver was thrown from the vehicle and severely injured. The driver and two passengers on the train were also seriously injured and several other passengers were slightly injured. Police said a total of 74 passengers were on the train.

Turkey's President Tayyip Erdogan said on Monday Ankara would soon launch new military operations along its southern borders to create 30-km deep safe zones to combat terrorist threats from these regions. The operation will likely target north of Syria, where Turkey has launched several military operations since 2016 to undermine the Kurdish People’s Defense Units (YPG), an armed Syrian offshoot of the Kurdistan Workers Party (PKK).

Denmark has registered its first incidence of infection with monkeypox in an adult male who had returned from a trip to Spain, according to the Danish health ministry. The man is currently in isolation and authorities are in touch with any close contacts, the ministry said. Also on Monday, Scotland announced its first case of monkeypox. In the rest of the United Kingdom, England currently has 20 confirmed cases, according to its latest update on Friday.

The killing of a guard at the Qatar Embassy in Paris in the early hours of Monday was a "heinous and unjustified" crime, the embassy said, as French prosecutors opened an investigation. The incident did not appear to have any links to terrorism, a source close to the probe said. The incident took place at around 06:30, the source said, adding that the suspect had entered the embassy and had a row with the security guard, who died after being punched.

A partial skull that was discovered last summer by two kayakers in Minnesota will be returned to Native American officials after investigations determined it was about 8,000 years old. The kayakers found the skull in the drought-depleted Minnesota River about 180 kilometers west of Minneapolis, Renville County Sheriff Scott Hable said. Thinking it might be related to a missing person case or murder, Hable turned the skull over to a medical examiner and eventually to the FBI, where a forensic anthropologist used carbon dating to determine it was likely the skull of a young man who lived between 5500 and 6000 B.C..

A zoo keeper ended up getting his finger ripped off by a lion as the beast attacked him in front of terrified visitors. The ship caught fire on Monday just before reaching the port of Real in Quezon province, about 60km east of the capital Manila. It had left Polilio Island at 5am local time and made a distress call at 6:30am. Five women and two men died, 120 passengers rescued, 23 of them treated for injuries, the coast guard said.

Iran’s elite Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) says one of its officers has been assassinated in the capital Tehran by gunmen riding on two motorcycles, according to the state news agency IRNA. The IRGC issued a statement on Sunday saying Hassan Sayyad Khodayari was assassinated by enemies of the revolution. He said that Khodayari was a member of the Quds Force (which is responsible for the IRGC’s foreign operations) and that he served in Syria in past years.
