US and Iranian negotiators are to aim for a final round of talks in Vienna next week on the terms for Washington’s re-entry to the nuclear deal, the Iranian chief negotiator has said, implying a deal is possible before the Iranian presidential election in June. The delegations, meeting in Vienna in a fourth round of talks, agreed on Wednesday to return to national capitals to receive final instructions on red lines before a definitive round of talks.

Sean Evans, 29, smashed the world record for rollercoaster riding after braving the terrifying 3.5 G-force, 32m-high ride during non-stop rain. The YouTuber and blogger averaged ten rides an hour without stopping for food or toilet breaks – hitting his target just as Nemesis was about to close for the day.

Millions across Southeast Texas will remain under flash flood watches through Thursday because of the torrential rain that has swept through the region, triggering power outages and reports of localized damage. Tornado watch for areas around Houston and College Station were lifted early Wednesday, but the rain is expected to continue falling until Friday before the system makes its way to the Gulf of Mexico. Coastal areas in Texas should expect to continue getting rain through Monday.

One of China’s tallest skyscrapers was evacuated on Tuesday after it began to shake, sending panicked shoppers scampering to safety. The near 300 metre high SEG Plaza in Shenzhen, southern China, inexplicably began to shake at around 1pm, prompting an evacuation of people inside while pedestrians looked on open-mouthed. Completed in 2000, the tower is home to a major electronics market as well as various offices in the centre of one of China’s fastest-growing cities.

Serena Williams’s preparations for the French Open suffered another blow with defeat by Katerina Siniakova in the Emilia-Romagna Open in Parma. The former world No 1 took a wild card into the tournament to give her more matches on clay after defeat by Nadia Podoroska in her first match in the Italian Open in Rome last week. A 73-year-old from Pakistan who is the oldest prisoner at the Guantanamo Bay detention centre has been notified that he has been approved for release after more than 16 years in custody at the US base in Cuba, his lawyer said. Saifullah Paracha, who has been held on suspicion of ties to al-Qaeda but never charged with a crime, was cleared by the prisoner review board along with two other men, said Shelby Sullivan-Bennis, who represented him at his hearing in November.

A surfer has died after a suspected shark attack at a popular beach in New South Wales (NSW), Australia. The man in his 50s suffered critical injuries to his upper thigh while surfing Tuesday morning, according to NSW Police. The man's three friends swam over to him and pulled him to shore. He went into cardiac arrest due to blood loss.

More than 90 people are missing after a barge off the coast of India's Mumbai city sank amid a severe cyclone. The Indian navy said it had rescued 177 of the 270 people aboard and that efforts to find survivors were ongoing. Three other commercial barges carrying about 700 people are stranded at sea in the wake of cyclone Tauktae, which has battered India's western coast. Tauktae weakened after it made landfall on Monday but at least 12 people have already died in the storm.
