The Royal Australian Navy destroyer HMAS Sydney has been linked to the deaths of two whales after berthing in San Diego. In a statement the Australian Department of Defence confirmed that “as HMAS Sydney was berthing alongside Naval Base San Diego in California two deceased whales dislodged from her hull beneath the surface”. The department said the Australian and US navies were cooperating with local marine authorities and other agencies to review the incident.

NBA legend Michael Jordan has shared his final text conversation with the late, great Kobe Bryant. Jordan, who will induct Bryant into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame on Saturday, shared the messages with ESPN which dated back to December 8, 2019 -- 49 days before his death. In the messages -- which Jordan admits he can't bring himself to delete -- Bryant praised Jordan's Cincoro Tequila, a bottle of which was sent to Bryant at the launch. "This tequila is awesome," the former Los Angeles Laker texted.

British number two Cameron Norrie missed the chance to face top seed Novak Djokovic after losing to Spain's Alejandro Davidovich Fokina in the Italian Open second round. Norrie, ranked one place below Davidovich Fokina at 49th in the world, lost 6-2 6-3. Norrie, 25, has been in solid form this year, having won 19 of his 29 matches, but produced too many errors in Rome. Davidovich Fokina will play Serbia's Djokovic in the third round.

Junk food commercials will be banned on British television before 9 p.m. and outlawed completely online, under new government proposals to curb rising obesity levels. Boris Johnson’s administration will also force firms with more than 250 employees -- including restaurant and pub chains -- to list calories on food. Promotions like “buy one get one free” on high fat, salt and sugar food and drinks will be restricted in supermarkets from next April. The changes are part of the Health and Care Bill unveiled Tuesday as the government set out its legislative program for the U.K.’s revival after the coronavirus crisis.

In an Instagram post shared on Tuesday, the 33-year-old singer revealed that she suffered a panic attack recently. The star didn't explain what exactly brought on the panic attack, but because it took place on Monday, is seems her "SNL" debut had little to nothing to do with the ordeal.

Barcelona have made contact with Italy's veteran goalkeeper Gianluigi Buffon about joining them in the summer, according to Foot Mercato. The 43-year-old is on the books at Juventus but announced on Tuesday that he will be leaving when his contract comes to an end this summer. Iran’s former president Mahmoud Ahmadinejad on Wednesday registered to run again in an election in June which is being seen as a test of the legitimacy of the country’s clerical rulers. Registration will end on Saturday, after which entrants will be screened for their political and Islamic qualifications by a 12-member vetting body, the Guardian Council. Six members of the hardline body are appointed by Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.

India on Wednesday posted a record rise in deaths from COVID-19 over the last 24 hours, pushing its total fatalities past the 250,000 mark. Deaths from COVID-19 swelled by 4,205, while daily coronavirus cases rose by 348,421, with India’s overall caseload now surging past 23 million, according to health ministry data.

An unusual fish with teeth as sharp as glass and a body shaped like a football washed ashore on a California beach last week. The black colored creature with it's gaping mouth laid on the sand on the shore of Crystal Cove State Park's Marine Protected Area in Laguna Beach last Friday. The park shared images of the fish on social media and identified it as being most likely the Pacific Football Fish.

A Chinese professor has urged the government to offer parents 1 million yuan ($156,000) for each newborn child in a bid to shore up the country's declining birth rate, sparking a debate on social media about the soaring costs of raising children. Liang Jianzhang, professor at Peking University's School of Economics said that it would cost 10% of China's GDP to raise birth rates from the current 1.3 to the replacement level of 2.1.

A diamond and pearl tiara passed down through generations of Italy's royal family sold for 1.5 million Swiss francs ($1.66 million) when it was auctioned in Switzerland on Tuesday. The price was one of the highest achieved for a tiara in recent years, auctioneers Sotheby's said following the sale in Geneva. Dating from the second half of the 19th century, the tiara was a wedding gift to Maria Vittoria dal Pozzo upon her marriage in 1867 to Amadeo I of Savoy, later king of Spain.

Cologne hired Steffen Baumgart as coach for next season on Tuesday even with the club’s place in the Bundesliga uncertain. Baumgart agreed to a two-year contract following four years with Paderborn.
