The Italian government has given the green light for fans to attend Euro 2020 matches scheduled for Rome's Stadio Olimpico, including the tournament's curtain raiser, the country's football federation said on Tuesday. Rome is set to host the opening fixture for the delayed multi-host nation Euro, between Turkey and Italy in Group A on Friday June 11. The Italian capital was also picked to host Italy's other group matches against Switzerland and Wales, as well as a quarter-final.

A freshly unearthed Bronze-Age stone may be the oldest three-dimensional map in Europe, researchers say. The slab, first uncovered in 1900, was found again in a cellar in a castle in France in 2014. Archaeologists say they believe the markings are a map of an area in western Brittany. They say this makes the slab the oldest 3D map of a known area in Europe. The piece of rock, known as the Saint-Bélec Slab, is believed to date from the early Bronze Age, between 1900 BC and 1650 BC.

Dutch police arrested a suspect Tuesday in the theft last year of two valuable paintings by Vincent van Gogh and Frans Hals from different museums, a spokeswoman said. The paintings, however, remain missing. 58-year-old man was arrested at his home in the Dutch town of Baarn. His identity was not released, in line with Dutch privacy guidelines.

The actor Paul Ritter has died of a brain tumour at the age of 54, his agent has told the Guardian. Ritter who starred as the family patriarch Martin in Channel 4’s Friday Night Dinner alongside Tamsin Greig, Simon Bird and Tom Rosenthal died on Monday. In 2019, Ritter displayed his range with a terrifying performance as Anatoly Dyatlov in the multi-award winning Chernobyl.

Cyprus is getting protected status for its prized halloumi, giving its producers the sole right to sell the rubbery cheese in the European Union. Later this month, the European Union is set to formally give halloumi the protected designation of origin (PDO) status, which will come into effect from October, according to Cyprus’ agriculture ministry.

The winner of Sri Lanka's biggest beauty prize has suffered head injuries after a brawl broke out on stage. Beauty queen Pushpika De Silva won the "Mrs Sri Lanka" title at a ceremony on national TV on Sunday. Moments later, the 2019 winner seized Ms De Silva's crown, claiming she could not be awarded the title because she was divorced. The prize has now been returned to Ms De Silva, after pageant organisers confirmed she is not a divorcee. The organisers have apologised to Ms De Silva, who says she is separated, but not divorced.

Renowned Japanese scriptwriter Sugako Hashida, best known for the internationally popular TV drama series “Oshin,” has died of lymphoma. She was 95. Hashida had been treated for the illness since earlier this year. She died Sunday at her home in Atami, west of Tokyo, according to Pinko Izumi, an actress who appeared in many of the dramas Hashida wrote, including “Oshin.”

Israeli soldiers shot dead a Palestinian motorist who they said tried to ram them at a checkpoint in the occupied West Bank on Tuesday - an account disputed by his wife, who was with him in the car. Salem Eid, the mayor of Biddu village, where the man lived, said Palestinians may raise the incident at the International Criminal Court, whose prosecutor announced last month it would formally investigate war crimes in the Palestinian territories.

France will contribute up to 4 billion euros ($4.7 billion) to a recapitalisation of Air France-KLM and more than double its 14.3% stake in the airline group under plans announced on Tuesday with European Union approval. The French government will convert a 3 billion euro loan extended to the group last year into a hybrid instrument and commit up to an additional 1 billion euros to a planned share issue, raising its stake in Air France-KLM to almost 30%.

A Soviet television adaptation of The Lord of the Rings thought to have been lost to time was rediscovered and posted on YouTube last week, delighting Russian-language fans of JRR Tolkien. The 1991 made-for-TV film, Khraniteli, based on Tolkien’s The Fellowship of the Ring, is the only adaptation of his Lord of the Rings trilogy believed to have been made in the Soviet Union.

The researchers in the US tested the ability of listeners to decode the emotion underlying a scream, based solely on its sound. A total of 182 participants listened through headphones to 30 screams from movies that were associated with one of the six emotions. After hearing a scream, the listeners rated how likely it was associated with each of six of the emotions, on a scale of one to five. The results showed that the participants most often matched a scream to its correct emotional context, except in the case of screams of happiness, which participants more often rated highly for fear.

Activist investor Carl Icahn’s investment firm named Aris Kekedjian, a former General Electric Co executive, as its president and chief executive officer on Monday. Kekedjian will replace Icahn Enterprises LP’s CEO Keith Cozza, who will leave the firm on May 31. Chief Financial Officer SungHwan Cho will also be departing, the company said. Icahn Enterprises was currently searching for a successor to the CFO, the company said.
