It was the country's first ballistic launch in almost a year and the first since Joe Biden became US President. Biden has said the US will "respond accordingly". The US, Japan and South Korea have condemned the tests.

A huge container ship blocking the Suez Canal like a “beached whale” may take weeks to free, the salvage company said, as officials stopped all ships entering the channel on Thursday in a new setback for global trade. The 400 metre Ever Given, is blocking transit in both directions through one of the world’s busiest shipping channels for oil and refined fuels, grain and other trade linking Asia and Europe.

A 3,200-year-old mural painted has been identified on the side of an ancient adobe temple that is thought to depict a zoomorphic, knife-wielding spider god associated with rain and fertility. The mural – applied in ochre, yellow, grey and white paint to the wall of the 15m x 5m mud brick structure in the Virú province of Peru’s La Libertad region – was discovered last year after much of the site was destroyed by local farmers trying to extend their avocado and sugarcane plantations.

On Thursday, the Pring family said they had a bit of trouble with their dryer, which was blowing an excessive amount of lint. Repairman Darrell Cobble stopped by to take a look at what was causing the problem. The family was in shock after finding out that their dryer had a snake living in it, causing the machine to malfunction.
Lazio have said they are "shocked by pain" following the death of youth-team midfielder Daniel Guerini, aged 19. According to reports in Italy, Guerini, who represented Italy at under-15 and under-16 level, was killed in a car crash in Rome on Wednesday night.

North Korea launched two ballistic missiles Thursday -- the second such launch in less than a week. The projectiles flew about 450 kilometers (280 miles), reaching an altitude of 60 kilometers (37 miles), and are believed to have been ballistic missiles launched from the ground, the statement said.

A woman in Hong Kong was arrested on charges of animal cruelty after she posted a picture on social media of her allegedly punishing her kitten by swathing it in plastic cling wrap for not snuggling with her at bedtime. The 45-year-old cat owner was arrested from her apartment in a Yuen Street in Mong Kok for allegedly punishing the cat by tying it with the film for not cuddling with her in bed like her previous cat used to.

Pope Francis has ordered cardinals to take a 10% pay cut and reduced the salaries of most other clerics working in the Vatican in order to save jobs of employees as the coronavirus pandemic has hit the Holy See’s income. The Vatican said on Wednesday that Francis issued a decree introducing proportional cuts starting on April 1. A spokesman said most lay employees would not be affected by the cuts.

The former Fifa president Sepp Blatter has been given a new ban of six years and eight months from football, the world governing body has announced. The ban has been imposed for multiple breaches of Fifa’s ethics code and comes into force when a current suspension ends in October, Fifa said. The same length of suspension has been imposed on the organisation’s former secretary general Jérôme Valcke. Both men have been fined 1m Swiss francs (almost £780,000), Fifa said.
