Left-leaning Hollywood celebrities are calling for action on gun control and gun reform after a shooting in Boulder, Colo., left 10 people dead including a police officer on Monday. The deceased victims range in age from 20 to 65 years old, police said. The suspect has been identified as Ahmad Al Aliwi Alissa, a 21-year-old Arvada, Colo., man. Authorities have not identified a motive.

Bitcoin fans looking for ways to spend their cryptocurrency fortunes can add a big ticket item to the list: a Tesla. "You can now buy a Tesla with Bitcoin," CEO Elon Musk said on Wednesday. Bitcoin paid to Tesla (TSLA) will not be converted by the electric car company into regular currency. Musk said that the option to pay by bitcoin will be available outside the United States later this year.

China's biggest carmaker Geely is launching a premium electric car brand it hopes will take on Tesla. The Chinese company, which owns Volvo and Lotus, announced its Zeekr brand on Tuesday to tap into China's demand for electric vehicles (EVs). It comes as Elon Musk goes on the charm offensive in China praising its plans to tackle carbon emissions. The Tesla founder has seeking to allay Chinese concerns about his cars' onboard cameras.

This wooden figurative statue with a number of mask-like faces was carved thousands of years ago, and preserved for millennia in the acidic, antimicrobial environment of the Shigir peat bog in the Ural Mountains in Russia. The idol was first discovered in 1890 and regarded as a curiosity, a totem pole-like carving from an earlier age. A team of scientists conducted a new analysis, using a sample extracted from the artifact's more pristine core, and found that it was closer to 11,600 years old.

Hong Kong suspended use of the Pfizer vaccine Wednesday after its Chinese distributor informed the city that one batch had defective bottle lids. The city’s government said the suspension was immediate while the matter is investigated by distributor Fosun Pharma and BioNTech, the German company which created the vaccine with American pharmaceutical firm Pfizer.

The world’s largest coal mining firm is to "aggressively" pursue solar energy and continue to close smaller mines. Coal India Limited (CIL) plans to invest in a 3,000 megawatt solar energy project in a joint venture with state-run NLC India. The company also wants to compete in India’s solar auctions and win projects by offering the lowest prices for clean power. It marks a major shift for the firm, which produces most of India’s coal.

A giant container ship ran aground in the Suez Canal on Tuesday, blocking one of the world’s busiest trade routes in both directions for nearly 19 hours. The 200,000-tonne Ever Given was en route from the Red Sea to the Mediterranean when it became stuck sideways in the canal at around 5.40am GMT, according to shipping agent GAC.

Facebook has failed to live up to its promises of creating a “safe” and “error-free” online environment, according to a new lawsuit filed by the press freedom not-for-profit Reporters without Borders. The organization alleged in a court filing on Tuesday that Facebook is guilty of “deceptive commercial practices” for promising users in its terms of service that it would provide “safe, secure and error-free environment”, one that cannot be used to “share anything (…) that is unlawful, misleading, discriminatory or fraudulent”.

But after posing for photos with the creature, she looked it up online to find it was a blue-ringed octopus - recognised as one of the most deadliest animals in the ocean, packing enough venom to kill 26 humans.

A senior Saudi official issued what was perceived to be a death threat against the independent United Nations investigator, Agnès Callamard, after her investigation into the murder of journalist Jamal Khashoggi. The outgoing special rapporteur for extrajudicial killings said that a UN colleague alerted her in January 2020 that a senior Saudi official had twice threatened in a meeting with other senior UN officials in Geneva that month to have Callamard “taken care of” if she was not reined in by the UN.

France’s Renault said on Tuesday it will produce three new higher-margin hybrid models in 2022-2024 in Spain following a new labour agreement struck recently with unions. The carmaker will make Spain a major hub for its E-TECH hybrids as it seeks to refocus its business to cut costs and improve margins after reporting an 8 billion euro loss in 2020. Renault currently manufactures three vehicles at its Palencia and Valladolid plants, in northwestern Spain.

A 3,000-year-old ceremonial gold mask has become an unexpected social media sensation in China after its recent discovery in Sichuan province. The artefact was one of 500 Bronze-Age relics found at the Sanxingdui archaeological site. Robot artist Sophia, whose first artwork goes up for auction on Wednesday, says she draws inspiration for her work from people and is open to future creative partnerships with humans.
