A woman in Nashville said she was amazed when she was contacted by a microchipping company to let her know that her pet dog had been located. 13 years ago Karen Fox reported her pet Yorkshire terrier missing after a red pickup truck pulled up in front of her home, grabbed the dog and sped off. Earlier this month Fox received a call from the company that microchipped the dog. She then received a call from a Nashville animal shelter confirming that the dog had been brought in after someone found it wandering around on the street.

Sri Lanka will ban the wearing of the burqa and shut more than a thousand Islamic schools, a government minister said on Saturday. Minister for public security Sarath Weerasekera told a news conference he had signed a paper on Friday for cabinet approval to ban the full face covering worn by some Muslim women on “national security” grounds.

A rare great potoo was spotted by an unnamed woman in Magdalena, Colombia, who initially mistook the bird for a piece of wood. She began filming the camouflaged bird sitting perfectly still on a wooden fence in Chibolo when she noticed things weren't as they seemed. After spending a few seconds making sounds to check if the strange piece of "wood" would move, the great potoo opened its eyes.

In a public battle at a prominent Washington, D.C. think tank, almost two dozen employees and fellows at the Atlantic Council have issued a statement slamming two of their colleagues for writing what they see as a pro-Russia article on the think tank’s website. Emma Ashford and Mathew Burrows, two senior experts at the Atlantic Council, published an article that said the U.S. should not focus on human rights in its dealings with Russia and wrote that “democratization in Russia would not necessarily be good for US foreign policy interests.” The article led 22 of the think tank’s staffers and fellows to issue a statement on Tuesday distancing themselves from Ashford and Burrows, saying the article “misses the mark.”

Spanish police discovered the nine-metre vessel last month while it was being built in the southern city of Málaga, during a broader international drug operation involving five other countries and the EU crime agency, Europol.
