Mick Jagger narrates film to mark Royal Albert Hall anniversary

A short film featuring crowds, happiness and the sheer thrill of being together has been released to kick off the celebrations for the 150th anniversary of the Royal Albert Hall. The Rolling Stones frontman reads from WH Auden’s poem For Friends Only in the 90-second clip, an emotional tribute to live music after a year without it. The film, directed by Tom Harper, intersperses poignant images of the empty venue with more than 40 pieces of concert archive footage dating back to 1933.

El Chapo's wife Emma Coronel Aispuro arrested in US over 'drug trafficking'

The wife of jailed Mexican drug lord Joaquín "El Chapo" Guzmán was detained at Dulles International Airport outside Washington DC. She is charged with participating in a conspiracy to distribute cocaine, methamphetamine, heroin and marijuana.

The iconic, award-winning performer spoke to Oprah Winfrey in an interview explaining his decision, citing the political turmoil in the United States. This isn't the first time he has said he was considering moving to Ghana. In 1994, he said he felt there was "more of a sense of community" than in the US.

Nasa has released stunning video of its Perseverance rover landing on Mars. The movies cover the final minutes of last week's hair-raising descent, up to the point where the robot's wheels make contact with the ground.
The sequence shows a whirl of dust and grit being kicked up as the vehicle is lowered by its rocket backpack to the floor of Jezero Crater.

Israel beaches covered in tar after oil spill

From Nitzanim near the Gaza Strip to the shores bordering Lebanon, 106 miles of the Mediterranean coast have been covered with tar. The pollution was noticed first on Wednesday, but stormy weather the following day carried out the oil and tar to Israel’s beaches.

People with extremist views less able to do complex mental tasks, research suggests

Cambridge University team say their findings could be used to spot people at risk from radicalization. The study, built on previous research, included more than 330 US-based participants aged 22 to 63 who were exposed to a battery of tests – 37 neuropsychological tasks and 22 personality surveys – over the course of two weeks.

US coronavirus death toll approaches milestone of 500,000

A year into the pandemic, the running total of lives lost was about 498,000 — roughly the population of Kansas City, Missouri, and just shy of the size of Atlanta. The figure compiled by Johns Hopkins University surpasses the number of people who died in 2019 of chronic lower respiratory diseases, stroke, Alzheimer’s, flu and pneumonia combined.

United Airlines is removing all of its Boeing 777 planes currently in service that are powered by

Pratt & Whitney 4000 series engines after the Federal Aviation Administration called for stepped-up inspections. The airline announced Sunday it was immediately removing the planes "out of an abundance of caution." The 24 aircraft are part of the 52 777s in the United fleet. The other 28 remain in storage.
