Gunmen have killed at least 48 people in attacks on three villages in northwest Nigeria’s Zamfara state, a local official and residents said. Dozens of gunmen on motorcycles entered the three villages in coordinated attacks, shooting people as they tried to flee, Aminu Suleiman, administrative head of Bakura district where the villages are located, said on Sunday.

Chelsea have agreed terms on the £4.25bn ($5.2bn) sale of the club to a consortium led by Todd Boehly, co-owner of the LA Dodgers baseball team. The club was put up for sale before owner Roman Abramovich was sanctioned for his alleged links to Russian president Vladimir Putin following the invasion of Ukraine. A Chelsea statement said the new owners will pay £2.5bn for the club's shares. The proceeds will go into a frozen bank account to be donated to charity.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention said on Friday that it is looking into the deaths of five children, linked to the growing number of mysterious pediatric hepatitis cases across the country. The agency is investigating 109 cases in 24 states and Puerto Rico, Dr. Jay Butler, CDC’s deputy director for infectious diseases, said during a media briefing Friday. Cases date back to October, 2021.

Israel is set to advance plans for the construction of 4,000 settler homes in the occupied West Bank, the interior minister said Friday, drawing warnings of “serious consequences” from the Palestinian Authority. If approved, it would be the biggest advancement of settlement plans since the Biden administration took office. The White House is opposed to settlement growth because it further erodes the possibility of an eventual two-state solution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.

At least 22 people are dead, including one minor, from an explosion at a hotel in Havana, Cuba, apparently caused by a gas leak, officials said. Cuban President Miguel Diaz-Canel was at the scene of the Saratoga Hotel in Havana with other officials. The president's office said Friday evening that 64 people hospitalized, including 14 minors.

Carlos Alcaraz toppled his idol Rafael Nadal 6-2, 1-6, 6-3 in the Madrid Open quarterfinals on Friday. "It means a lot to me," said the 19-year-old Alcaraz. A 16-year-old girl and a woman aged 34 were killed in the shooting at the Tro Tardi farm in Alblasserdam, to the east of Rotterdam. Dutch police later arrested an armed suspect in a nearby park. A 13-year-old boy and a 20-year-old woman were seriously wounded, while a fifth person was slightly hurt. Police said there was no clear motive for Friday's attack. They identified the suspect as a 38-year-old man. Dutch media said he was known to police as "confused and a nuisance".

The man accused of attacking US comedian Dave Chappelle on stage at the Hollywood Bowl has been charged with four counts of misdemeanour and will no longer face felony charges. Los Angeles City Attorney's Office has now hit Isaiah Lee, 23, with charges including battery and possession of a weapon with intent to assault. Prosecutors concluded that the evidence did not constitute felony conduct. But added that the alleged criminal attack must "have consequences".

SpaceX brought four astronauts home with a midnight splashdown in the Gulf of Mexico on Friday, capping the busiest month yet for Elon Musk’s taxi service. The three U.S. astronauts and one German in the capsule were bobbing off the Florida coast, near Tampa, less than 24 hours after leaving the International Space Station. NASA expected to have them back in Houston later in the morning.

The 57-year old patient who survived two months after undergoing a landmark pig heart transplant died of a pig virus, his transplant surgeon announced last month. In January, David Bennett, a handyman who suffered from heart failure, underwent a highly experimental surgery at the University of Maryland medical center in which doctors transplanted a genetically modified pig’s heart into him. Shortly after undergoing the surgery, Bennett died in March.

Kyrgyzstan has reported the killing of three citizens after Uzbekistan’s troops opened fire at the disputed frontier of the two Central Asian countries. The Kyrgyz National Security Committee did not say in Friday’s announcement whether the dead were civilians or border troops. “Without regaining consciousness, they died from their gunshot wounds,” the statement said, adding that it had taken place on Thursday.

A European Union embargo on Russian oil would be equivalent to dropping an “atomic bomb” on Hungary’s economy and could thus not be accepted, the country’s nationalist prime minister said on Friday. Swiss police say they have seized 500kg of cocaine from a shipment of coffee that was sent to a Nespresso factory. Workers at the plant in Romont alerted the authorities after finding white powder in sacks of coffee beans. Police later found more of the drug in five shipping containers. An initial investigation suggested the shipment had come from Brazil. A Nespresso statement said production of coffee capsules at the plant had not been contaminated by the drug.
