Walt Disney Co's (DIS.N) Marvel Studios takes a turn into horror territory in a new "Doctor Strange" movie that begins its global rollout in theaters on Wednesday. Benedict Cumberbatch stars in "Doctor Strange and the Multiverse of Madness," a follow-up to a 2016 film that introduced the neurosurgeon-turned-sorcerer to the big screen. "I would definitely say it's the darkest and scariest that this lot (Marvel) have made," Cumberbatch said of the new film.

Ten Burundian peacekeepers were killed in Tuesday's attack by Al-Shabaab jihadists on an African Union (AU) base in Somalia, Burundi's army said Wednesday. Twenty-five soldiers were also injured and five are missing while 20 Al-Shabaab militants were killed, it said in a statement.

Nearly 300 probable cases of children with severe hepatitis have been detected in 20 countries worldwide, with some in South East Asia, the World Health Organization (WHO) has said. Health officials around the world are investigating a mysterious increase in cases of the liver condition which was first spotted in the UK. A common virus called adenovirus, which has rebounded after the pandemic, could be causing the surge. One death has been reported by the WHO.

Voters in Northern Ireland are set to go to the polls on Thursday in an election that could make history. This is because Sinn Féin, an Irish nationalist party that supports the reunification of Northern Ireland with the Republic of Ireland, is widely predicted to secure the majority of the votes and as such become entitled to the post of first minister. It would be the first time in the history of the state that a nationalist has held this role instead of Unionist politicians, who favour Northern Ireland remaining part of the United Kingdom.

US stand-up comedian Dave Chappelle was attacked on stage on Tuesday during a performance at the Hollywood Bowl in Los Angeles. Clips shared on social media showed someone running into the star. Further videos appeared to show the comic apparently unharmed after returning to the stage at the Netflix Is A Joke Festival. Chappelle faced criticism and protests last year when his Netflix special was accused of being transphobic. After returning to the stage on Tuesday, the 48-year-old joked: "It was a trans man."

Actress Amber Heard suffers from post traumatic stress disorder as a result of "intimate partner violence" from her former husband, "Pirates of the Caribbean" star Johnny Depp, a psychologist testified on Tuesday. Dawn Hughes, a clinical and forensic psychologist, also said that Depp suffered from "obsessive control" and "obsessive jealousy" issues towards Heard during their "highly volatile" relationship.

India’s western state of Maharashtra has registered 25 deaths from heat stroke since late March, the highest toll in the past five years, with more fatalities likely elsewhere in a country sweltering in temperatures over 40 degrees Celsius. Scientists have linked the early onset of an intense summer to climate change, and say more than a billion people in India and neighbouring Pakistan were in some way vulnerable to the extreme heat.

The idea first came to co-founder and chief science officer Leila Strickland in 2013, after she heard about the world's first lab-grown burger. Eight people have died after drinking tainted homemade alcohol in the Iranian city of Bandar Abbas, local media say. Another 51 people were being treated in hospitals for alcohol poisoning, local health official Dr Fatemeh Nowruzian told a news conference. Seventeen of them were in a critical condition in intensive care, while 30 were undergoing dialysis, she added. Police said they had arrested eight people on suspicion of producing and distributing the alcohol.

Somalia's al Shabaab group attacked an African Union mission troop camp in the Shabelle region in the centre of the country, a local elder and the group said on Tuesday, and another resident said three civilians had died in the crossfire. The resident, who lives in a village near the scene, later said he saw two helicopters flying by and gunfire coming from them.
