Hundreds of fans have gathered outside the funeral of The Wanted singer Tom Parker, who died from brain cancer last month at the age of 33. The singer's widow, Kelsey, led a hearse pulled by three black horses through Petts Wood, south-east London. On the side of the carriage, flowers spelled the words "Tom" and "Daddy". The title of the boy band's 2011 number one Glad You Came also formed a floral tribute outside St Francis of Assisi church.

Andy Murray has reversed his decision to skip the entire clay-court season after being confirmed as a wildcard entry for the Madrid Open. The 34-year-old, who has been training in Florida with coach Ivan Lendl, had initially considered sitting out all matches on the surface to minimise the wear and tear on his body ahead of the grass court season. However, he has now changed his plans and will be in action in the Spanish capital next week.

A British judge on Wednesday sent the case of Julian Assange to interior minister Priti Patel who will decide whether the Wikileaks founder should be extradited to the United States over the release of confidential U.S. documents. The procedural step, in what has been a long-running and high-profile legal battle, was announced at a hearing in central London following a March decision to deny Australian-born Assange permission to appeal against his extradition.

US actor Ezra Miller has been arrested after allegedly assaulting a woman in Hawaii. The Fantastic Beasts star threw a chair at the woman, leaving her with a cut to her forehead, according to police. Miller was arrested in the early hours of Tuesday morning for second-degree assault at a private property in Pahoa on Hawaii's Big Island, after reports of the attack. Hawaii Police Department said the actor had become "irate" before throwing the chair.

Methane explosions at a coal mine in southern Poland on Wednesday killed four people and injured 19, authorities said. Seven others were missing. The blasts took place at 12:15 a.m. local time about 1,000 meters under the surface at the Pniowek mine in Pawlowice that is operated by the Jastrzebska Spolka Weglowa, or JSW, mining company. The immediate rescue operation by 13 units of rescuers had to be suspended because of a fire and the need to protect the rescuers. Contact with seven of the rescuers has been lost during the operation.

A memorandum of understanding was signed in the Belgian city of Mechelen between the Foundation for the Preservation of Wildlife and Cultural Assets (FPWC), the environmental NGO ArAves, BirdLife International, and Natuurpunt. The organizations expressed readiness to provide maximum support to the FPWC and ArAves in their environmental and conservation activities. The organizations will implement several projects soon aimed at the conservation and restoration of wetland bird habitats, as well as several other educational initiatives.

Health officials across several countries in Europe and the US are investigating cases of a severe liver disease in children that was first identified in the United Kingdom. The European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control said on Tuesday it had detected an unspecified number of cases of hepatitis, or liver inflammation, in Denmark, Ireland, the Netherlands and Spain.

Netflix has lost hundreds of thousands of subscribers for the first time in more than a decade - and forecasts a gloomy outlook for the near future. Its decision in early March to suspend service in Russia after it invaded Ukraine resulted in the loss of 700,000 members. It comes as the company's stock plunged by 23 per cent in after-market trading on Tuesday afternoon. Meanwhile its rivals Roku fell by 6%, Walt Disney by 4% and Warner Bros by 2%.

Sri Lankan police opened fire Tuesday at a group of people protesting new fuel price increases, killing one and injuring 13 others, in the first shooting by security forces during weeks of demonstrations over the country’s worst economic crisis in decades. A 400-year-old “one in a million” Dutch painting worth up to $5m has been found at a property in the New South Wales Blue Mountains. Called Still Life, the work was recently located at the National Trust of Australia-managed Woodford Academy during a restoration project. The 17th-century oil painting depicts a lavish table setting typical of the Dutch Golden Age and is thought to have been the work of Gerrit Willemz Heda.
