Parts of the Nablus-Jenin highway were closed to Palestinian traffic as a result of the march. Settlers departed on Tuesday morning from the settlement of Shavei Shomron, northwest of Nablus, on buses.

Actor Johnny Depp is set to take the witness stand Tuesday in his legal battle against his former wife Amber Heard, whom he accuses of lying about his abusing her during their brief marriage. Depp is suing Heard for defamation over an essay she wrote for The Washington Post in 2018, in which she said she had become the "public figure representing domestic abuse." Although the article never mentions Depp by name, his attorneys said it indirectly refers to allegations she made against him during their 2016 divorce.

French police have begun an investigation into the cause of a fire that ravaged a small Russian Orthodox church in central Paris on Easter Sunday, the Paris firefighting department said. About 60 firefighters were dispatched to the church on April 17 to put out the blaze that erupted at Saint-Seraphin-de-Sarov in Paris's 15th arrondissement (district), a Paris firefighting spokesman said. There was extensive damage but no casualties.

China has reported seven more deaths from COVID-19 in the locked-down city of Shanghai, a day after announcing its first fatalities from a weeks-long outbreak driven by the Omicron variant. The deaths on Tuesday bring the total death toll in Shanghai to 10, with the virus continuing to spread. The latest victims were aged between 60 and 101 and had not been vaccinated, according to officials.

Japanese researchers have developed computerised chopsticks that enhance salty tastes, potentially helping those who need to reduce sodium in their diets. Co-developed by Meiji University professor Homei Miyashita and beverage maker Kirin Holdings Co. (2503.T), the chopsticks enhance tastes using electrical stimulation and a mini-computer worn on a wristband. The device uses a weak electrical current to transmit sodium ions from food, through the chopsticks, to the mouth where they create a sense of saltiness, said Miyashita.

Harrison Birtwistle, the creator of daringly experimental modern music who was recognized as one of Britain’s greatest contemporary composers, has died at 87. Birtwistle’s publisher, Boosey & Hawkes, said he died Monday at his home in Mere, southwest England. No cause of death was given.

Manchester United footballer Cristiano Ronaldo and partner Georgina Rodriguez have announced the death of their baby boy, saying it is the "greatest pain that any parents can feel". The Portugal international, 37, and Rodriguez, 28, were expecting twins. Their baby girl survived, and they said her birth "gives us the strength to live this moment with some hope and happiness". A SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket once again successfully launched a US spy satellite from the Vandenberg Space Force Base in California, the company said. The Falcon 9 was developed by Elon Musk's SpaceX to be the first orbital-class rocket capable of launching multiple missions, as a way to drive down costs, and SpaceX made history in 2017 by launching the same rocket for a second time.

Swedish police said officers wounded three people Sunday in the eastern city of Norrkoping as demonstrators protested against plans by a far-right group to burn copies of the Koran. "Police fired several warning shots. Three people appear to have been hit by ricochets and are currently being treated in hospital", police said in a statement. Sunday's clashes in Norrkoping were the second there in four days.

North Korea says it has successfully tested a new weapon, which it says will significantly enhance its tactical nuclear capabilities. Photos show the country's leader Kim Jong-un smiling and clapping as he watches the new missile's launch. Experts believe this is a sign that North Korea is planning to test a compact nuclear weapon soon - in other words, a tactical nuclear weapon. North Korea stopped nuclear testing in 2017.

At least 443 people have died in floods that have devastated South Africa’s KwaZulu-Natal province, according to an official, as rescuers searched for dozens of people still missing in the southeastern coastal region. Sihle Zikalala, the province’s premier, said on Sunday that the dead included two emergency workers and added that a further 63 people remain unaccounted for.
