The United States will not put US troops in the air to create a no-fly zone in Ukraine, according to the US ambassador to the United Nations. Linda Thomas-Greenfield told CNN's Dana Bash on "State of the Union" on Sunday that the Biden administration "has made clear" the US will not "put boots on the ground. "We're not going to put American troops in danger. That means we're not going to put American troops in the air as well, but we will work with the Ukrainians to give them the ability to defend themselves," she said.
The Iranian ambassador to the UK has been ordered back to Tehran and is to be removed from his post after a video circulated showing an embassy reception at which some women did not have their heads covered. News of Mohsen Baharvand’s return to Tehran was reported by the ILNA news agency in Iran. At the event commemorating the 43rd Iranian Revolution, a woman playing a piano alongside a violinist was not wearing a hijab. Another video of the event showed a more conventional gathering at which speeches were given.

Legendary Australian athlete John Landy, renowned for his rivalry with Britain's Roger Bannister in the 1950s, has died aged 91. Landy became the second athlete in history, after Bannister, to run a four-minute mile. The former mile and 1500m world record holder won Olympic bronze in the 1500m at the Melbourne Games in 1956.

Torrential downpours lashed eastern Australia on Saturday, raising deadly floodwaters to decades-long highs, swamping homes and sweeping away cars, including one carrying a team of rescuers. Authorities in the eastern state of Queensland said two people were killed overnight, bringing the flooding death toll to four since early this week. Another two people are still missing.

Scientists in Argentina have unearthed the remains of a previously unknown species of meat-eating dinosaur that lived about 70m years ago that had puny arms and may have used its powerful head to ram its prey. The fossil skull of the Cretaceous period dinosaur, named Guemesia ochoai, was discovered in Argentina’s north-western Salta province. The researchers said it likely belongs to a carnivorous group of dinosaurs called abelisaurs.

The death toll from devastating landslides and flash flooding this month near the Brazilian city of Rio de Janeiro has risen to 217 after additional bodies were uncovered, authorities said, as hundreds of people remain displaced. Police said on Friday that 42 children were among the victims of the storm that hit Petropolis on February 15, according to the latest figures – or nearly one-fifth of all fatalities.
