Israeli headquarters for the war against terror once again recommended its citizens not to travel to Azerbaijan
Israeli headquarters for the war against terror warns its citizens to avoid travel to Chechnya as well as to Azerbaijan because of a "specific threat" of terroristic attack, said portal "IzRus".
The article said that on 5 March the Israeli headquarters of the combat against the terror, that are a part of the structure of the National Security Council issued a statement, according to which Israelis are not recommended to visit 12 countries and 8 regions of other states during the spring holidays. This time from only Azerbaijan was included in this list from former Soviet republics. The level of threat there is rated as "potential" and the Israelis are not recommended to appear there unnecessarily.
Portal “IzRus” emphasizes that most probably it's about possible attempts of "Hezbollah" to kidnap Israelis, thus "marking" the fifth anniversary of elimination of one of their leaders, Imad Mughniyeh.
At the same time, citizens are advised not to travel to Chechnya, where the threat, according to experts of headquarters, is rather concrete. Moreover, those who are now in Chechnya, are recommend to leave the place urgently.
Note that in the end of March 2012 Israeli anti-terror headquarter once again put Azerbaijan in the list of dangerous countries for Israeli citizens in the light of the probability of terrorist attacks in abroad. Headquarters, said that it was a "continuing potential danger," and the Israelis should not visit Azerbaijan without necessity. Earlier, on July 19, 2011, the Headquarters for the war against terror also warned the Israelis not to travel to Azerbaijan, Georgia and to Turkey. Later, the Operations Department of the General Headquarters of the IDF issued an order prohibiting their officers and warrant officers to travel in 36 countries and regions, including Azerbaijan.
On the terrorist threat in Azerbaijan citizens of other countries were warned too. Thus, in late January 2012 the U.S. embassy in Baku confirmed the importance of global and regional threats against the United States and other countries in Azerbaijan concerning the reports in the press that the MNS of Azerbaijan prevented the conspiracy linked to Iran's plans to make attacks on foreigners in Baku. In this regard, the United States embassy reminded U.S. citizens that there is a possibility of certain actions to be implemented against the citizens of this country in Azerbaijan.
In May 2012 the U.S. Embassy in Baku issued a statement in which it said that in the light of the events associated with the musical contest "Eurovision" in Baku, U.S. citizens that are in Azerbaijan when visiting the events should be particularly vigilant in connection with possible terrorist threats for the security of the citizens themselves. The statement noted that the U.S.
Embassy in Baku confirms once again the presence of global and regional threats towards U.S. interests. The arrest of suspected members of terrorist groups in Azerbaijan simply underlines the need to be vigilant in this country.
In December 2010, the Russian Foreign Ministry put Azerbaijan in the list of countries which may undergo terrorist threats.
