Cato Institute: Armenia CIS leader in Human Freedom Index
In the Human Freedom Index of the Washington-based think tank Cato Institute, Armenia ranked 53 out of 152 countries, thus becoming the first among the CIS countries. The Index uses 76 distinct indicators of personal and economic freedom to measure the human freedom on a scale of 0 to 10, where 10 represents more freedom. Armenia’s overall score is 7.44. It got a maximum score of 10 for the criteria “Relationships.” The security and safety in Armenia was assessed 9.3.
The neighboring Georgia ranks 48th (7.50 points), Turkey is on the 62nd position (7.10), Russia – 111th (6.36), Azerbaijan – 126th (6.09), and Iran got the last, 152nd, position with 4.48 points.
Hong Kong tops the list (9.04), followed by Switzerland (8.80) and Finland (8.63), while the U.S. closes top-20 of the list with 8.26 points.
Along with Cato Institute, the report was co-published by the Canadian think tank Fraser Institute and the Swiss think tank Liberales Institut at the Friedrich Naumann Foundation for Freedom.
